Technical Services Technician

About the role:

The Technical Services Technician is responsible for providing specialist technical support (including electrical) throughout the organisation. Working as part of the technical services team in the technical aspects of the AURA show, Quartz Mine, Secret Chamber, Red Hill Mine, BV displays, Chinese Village, Woah Hawp, Rare Trades Centre, Testing and Tagging and general electrical maintenance ensuring all displays are operating correctly to internal standards. Maintain all fire detection alarm systems, and security systems.  This role would ideally suit a Qualified Electrician with a background/interest in Audio Visual work, or an AV Technician with experience in either a workplace environment or via training.  The successful applicant should have:

  • At least 2 years’ experience in a similar role or with technical theatre productions, audio visual/sound roles
  • Demonstrated knowledge of AV equipment, lighting systems and show control
  • Have an understanding of ICT and networking protocols, with a high level of troubleshooting and reporting skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematic diagrams, panel drawings and rack layouts
  • Must be a self-starter, extremely well organised, enthusiastic and possess excellent communication skills
  • Willingness to obtain “A” grade electrician licence (if required), via an Electrical Apprenticeship with Sovereign Hill
  • Excellent computer skills with a comprehensive knowledge of computers and software pertaining to programming shows
  • Competent in the use of all power, hand tools and various equipment
  • An understanding and commitment to ensuring a safe work environment
  • Excellent time management skills with ability to do tasks with in a time frame
  • A valid Manual Drivers Licence 

Applicants with experience with the following would also be considered:

  • Previous experience with AV applications such as AMX, GrandMA, ETC, Dynalite, Medialon, Watchout Production
  • Previous experience with Fire detection systems and security systems
  • A Certificate or Diploma in a Technical or Electrical Discipline
  • Test and Tag Licence
  • White Card

This is a Full Time role, generally operating Monday to Friday, however the successful applicant must have the ability and willingness to work across flexible rosters including weekends, public holidays and school holidays as required.  The role also calls for on-call work at rostered times.  When rostered, employees must be readily accessible to respond to calls and attend any on-site technical and/or maintenance issues within a reasonable time frame (eg: within 30 minutes of call in).

The successful applicant will be required to carry an employee Working with Children’s Check and undergo a Police Check.  A pre-employment medical is also required.
