About the Traineeship & Eligibility

Arts Centre Melbourne has three great new career opportunities available for people with a passion for technical production in the performing arts.

The Technical Production Trainee program is aimed at people who have not yet commenced their professional careers. We look for people who are keen to enter the industry and develop skills in theatre production by obtaining a Certificate III in Live Production & Services.

We offer one specific traineeship per department; (Lighting) (Sound) and (Staging). It’s important you focus on one area of interest; we understand people have broad interests but we need to know about your specialty. You will also need to satisfy our eligibility criteria:

* Excellent presentation and communication skills.
* Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident of Australia.
* Willing to commit to the traineeship agreement. Traineeship duration is approximately 12 months.
* You have not completed a qualification equal to or above a Certificate III. For example, completed Cert III, Cert IV, Diploma or Degree in any technical discipline will make you ineligible.
* You must display a willingness to learn and commit to both the classroom based and on-the job training components of the Traineeship.

How, when and where?

The trainees will be recruited through November/December 2016 and shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend a special information/interview session in mid-December.

The selected Trainees will commence rostered work and learning activities at Arts Centre Melbourne from Tuesday 14th February 2017 and the traineeship will conclude in May 2018.

The traineeship will include a combination of on and off the job learning and trainees will work toward obtaining a Certificate III in Live Production & Services. Trainees will be employed 20 hours per week on a variable time (part time) contract.

Trainees have an initial probationary period of three months, during which they will need to successfully complete two WH&S units of their course.
After this period, the trainees will continue to complete all other units from the Certificate III in Live Production & Services.

Trainees will commence on a rate of $21.55 per hour (Band 1.1) and after the probationary period the rate will be $22.37 per hour (Band 1.2). General terms and conditions of employment will be per the Arts Centre Melbourne Enterprise Agreement 2012.

The trainees will be supervised and will gain experience in all areas of technical production, including Sound, Lighting and Staging.

Arts Centre Melbourne is excited about providing this opportunity. If you would like to apply, please complete and submit the online application form by COB Friday 9th December 2016.
