Technical Production Trainee, Arts Centre Melbourne

Arts Centre Melbourne has three great new career opportunities available for people with a passion for technical production in the performing arts.

The Technical Production Trainee program is aimed at people who have not yet commenced their professional careers. We look for people who are keen to enter the industry and develop skills in theatre production by obtaining a Certificate III in Live Production, Theatre and Events.

We offer one specific trainee per department; Sound, Lighting & Staging. It’s important you focus on one area of interest; we understand people have broad interests but we need to know about your specialty.

You will also need to satisfy our eligibility criteria:

• Excellent presentation and communication skills;

• Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident of Australia (for at least 6 months prior to applying);

• Willing to commit to the traineeship agreement for 12 months;

• You must not have completed a qualification equal to, or above a Certificate III, in any discipline. For example, completed Cert III, Cert IV, Diploma or Degree in any discipline will make you ineligible; and

• You must display a willingness to learn and commit to both the on-the-job practical elements and the work-based training component of the traineeship.

How, when and where?

The trainees will be recruited in early 2014 and shortlisted candidates will be invited to undertake an induction during March 2014.

Trainees will commence rostered work and learning activities at Arts Centre Melbourne following the induction period and the traineeship will conclude during Autumn of 2015.

The traineeship will include a combination of on and off the job learning and trainees will work toward obtaining a Certificate III in Live Production, Theatre and Events. Trainees will be employed 20 hours per week on a variable time (part time) contract.

Trainees will complete an initial probationary period of 3 months, during which they will need to successfully complete two OHS units from the production certificate. After this period, the trainees will continue to complete all other units from the Certificate III in Live Production, Theatre and Events.

Trainees will commence on a rate of $20.42 per hour (Band 1.1) and after the probationary period the rate will be $21.19 per hour (Band 1.2). General terms and conditions of employment will be per the Arts Centre Melbourne Enterprise Agreement 2012.

Trainees will be supervised and will gain experience in all areas of technical production, including Sound, Lighting and Staging.

Arts Centre Melbourne is excited about providing this opportunity. If you would like to apply, please complete the online application form by Wednesday 5 March 2014. If you would like any further information please contact Chris Hayes, Operations Manager Safety and Learning on 9281 8137 or email employment@artscentremelbourne.com.au
