About the Role

We are seeking applications for the full-time 12 month term role of Technical Production Trainee. This is an exciting role with 4 vacant opportunities for enthusiastic and dedicated individuals interested in joining our Production Services team. You will gain on the job training while working closely with QPAC’s experienced Production Services professionals, as well as undertaking a Certificate III in Live Production and Technical Services. Reporting to the Manager – Technical Training, you will receive hands-on work experience across the nominated areas of QPAC (staging, audio/visual, lighting and wardrobe) and experience all technical operations of a major performing arts centre. 

Availability is required across a seven-day roster for day, evening and weekend shifts to meet operational demands. Full-time Technician Trainees are required to work a total of 38 ordinary hours per week.

In supporting our ongoing commitment to Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander employment, one of these trainee positions is identified. It is a genuine occupational requirement that the position is held by an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person, and the exemption in section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 applies.

In this role you will:

  • Complete a Certificate III in Live Production and Technical Services through a nominated Registered Training Organisation (RTO.) Attend/participate in the formal training process, be it face to face sessions or online activities. Complete tasks, assessments, assignments, etc. that are set by the RTO.
  • Assist with nominated staging, vision, lighting, audio or wardrobe activities.
  • Assist in delivering high level technical support to clients of the venue (internal and external).
  • Work with Production Services staff to solve technical problems and to implement show technical plans before and during productions.


About You

To be successful in this role, we are looking for:

  • Demonstrated interest in Technical Production and a desire to explore and develop a career in the Performing Arts.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to communicate effectively and work in a team with a professional and positive manner.
  • The ability to plan and coordinate work effectively to complete assigned tasks and meet team and production standards.
  • A demonstrated ability to take direction and apply acquired knowledge to satisfy the requirements of assigned tasks.
  • The physical capability to frequently perform the inherent requirements of the role including manual work tasks that may involve strenuous activity and repetitive actions.
