We are on the lookout for an experienced, flexible and passionate Production & Technical Manager to join team Theatre Works to support the delivery of our 2022 season in accordance with our creative vision, mission, and values.
This permanent part-time position encapsulates technical and production management, as well as ensuring efficient and effective delivery of venue and technical services to clients.
This position is part-time, being 60 hours per fortnight flexi-time as negotiated with the ED. There is a requirement to work for one full day per week in the office specifically to manage administration, communications and staff meetings
Salary: Part-Time 0.8 FTE (30 Hours Per Week) $34 per hour – Hours distributed unevenly across the contract – with periods of high activity balanced by periods of low activity. 12 Month contract with the opportunity to renew. 3-month probationary period
The incumbent can allocate themselves casual tech shifts over and above the permanent part time hours
Due to the nature of the industry, it is a requirement of the position to be available at nights and weekends and to be flexible with work arrangements.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
• Manage all technical and production activity in the venue
• Manage venue, technical production, equipment, and other budgets as required
• Maintain up to date venue bookings and operations diary in consultation with the ED
• Liaise with the ED regarding dates available for all venue use
• Liaise with hirers and all other users regarding their technical and other production Requirements
• Oversee the efficiency and safety of all activity in the venue
• Run production meetings for all users
• Manage bump-in and bump-out for all users
• Manage and/or oversee all technical, production and back-of-house staffing requirements for the venue. As negotiated, take on technical, production and back- of-house roles and manage other work duties around extra workload during these periods
• Recruit and supervise casual technical staff and volunteers as required
• Determine safe and effective operations protocols for all activity in the venue as required, including ensuring OHS & COVID safe practices are implemented at all times
• Working with the ED update and maintain the organisational OHS & Covid Safe venue operation plans
• Ensure adequate induction procedures for all users of the venue and its equipment, including Theatre Works staff, casuals, hirers, volunteers, and others
• Ensure venue is kept in good order, including proper maintenance, repair and replacement of building fabric and equipment
• Deliver annual maintenance programme
• Manage the venue’s ongoing maintenance requirements throughout the year, including arranging and/or carrying out building fabric and equipment repairs as required
• Maintain up to date equipment and repairs register
• Make recommendations regarding venue, technical production and equipment repair and procurement budgets as required
• Maintain technical documents and technical specifications
• Undertake other responsibilities as determined with the ED
• Support Theatre Works productions and co-productions through production management and coordination; ensuring technical and production aspects of projects are delivered
• Other duties as required taking into consideration the Venue/Production Manager’s skills and expertise
Selection Criteria:
1. Demonstrated experience in technical theatre work which includes lighting, av, sound installation and equipment operation and some experience plotting/programming is essential
2. Demonstrated experience in customer/client service
3. Demonstrated competence in using Google Applications / Windows desktop software applications.
4. Ability to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines and workflows
5. Ability to work independently or in a team in a professional and positive manner.
6. Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively and present a customer-focused approach to people at all levels within the public and private sectors
7. Ability to work flexible hours appropriate for the operation of the venue
8. Experience in the delivery of theatre productions
9. Experience managing or working in a venue or public space, including knowledge of WHS principles, practices and legislation, and experience in risk management
10. EWP Certificate under 11 m / First Aid Certificate
