LPA Award Level: 6
Remuneration: $932 per week plus annual leave and superannuation (overtime, time in lieu and loadings as appropriate)
Reports to: Technical Production Manager
The Technical Operator for Hayes Theatre Co must be self-motivated, confident and demonstrate initiative and an ability to work independently and within a team. The Technical Operator is responsible for the audio operation of Independent and Hayes produced shows across the season and working with the incoming sound designers to realise their design. They are also responsible for maintaining the audio equipment and system as well as minor maintenance of lights and sets as required by different productions.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of audio systems, particularly Yamaha consoles as well as experience and training in theatre technical equipment. Experience in theatre production and knowledge of lighting and basic tools is desirable. From time to time you may be asked to cover for the Technical Production Manager supervising a bump in or bump out or to perform tasks not usually associated with the role of Technical Operator.
Duties include:
Venue
- General maintenance of Hayes Theatre equipment including audio and lighting equipment
- Report any repairs of equipment to Technical Production Manager as required
- Provide technical support to current productions, i.e problem solve any issues that may arise during a season
- Basic venue maintenance in absence of Technical Production Manager ie. Light bulbs, minor fixes
- Isolation of venue when required
Productions
- Operate audio for incoming productions and one-off shows and events
- Work with incoming sound designers to realise their design
- Power up and power down audio and lighting systems for each production and complete system checks daily
- Basic repairs and maintenance of production equipment as required
- Assist with bump in/outs of each production presented at the venue
- Act as relief staff for the Technical Production Manager

Requirements
- 1-2 years in a similar role relating to technical production
- Good knowledge of audio system setup
- Strong understanding of Yamaha CL5 console and solid mixing skills
- Knowledge and experience with wireless microphones
- Understanding of backline
- Good communication skills
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Sound knowledge of current WH&S standards that apply to the theatre environment
- Basic lighting knowledge, including rigging fixtures and changing bubbles
Desirable Skills
- Knowledge of CAD-based platforms such as VectorWorks or AutoCAD
- Test & Tag certification
- Driver’s Licence
- First Aid Certificate
- Experience with ETC Ion
