Technical Operations Officer

This role is crucial to the operation of the Potato Shed multi-arts facility (Drysdale). You would be responsible for the delivery of industry-standard technical services across the venue, ensuring that all lighting, sound and staging equipment is maintained and in working order. You will liaise with clients to ensure that their specific event requirements are met and that each performance runs as expected.

Work type: Permanent Part Time (68.4hrs per fortnight – 0.9FTE)
Classification: Band 4 $69,560 – $74,316 (pro rata – plus super)

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide day-to-day technical and production services (sound/AV, lighting, staging) for the Potato Shed including set up and operation of services for theatre, studio and event spaces, including outdoor events.
  • Participate in production meetings to successfully implement professional planning for each event, advising on schedules, technical specifications, risk assessments and relevant reporting.
  • Supervise and provide on-the-job training for Technical Officers and other staff as required to provide technical and production services for a range of client events and programs in accordance with established production guidelines and venue procedures.
  • Identify and deliver technical requirements, including lighting, sound, audio visual and staging for all venue activities, in liaison with internal staff, touring production staff and external hires.
  • Conduct inventory checks of equipment and supplies and maintain asset register.  


About you
The ideal candidate for this role will have experience working in the Theatre industry, or experience running festivals or music/concert events, along with experience with lighting and audio equipment. You will be confident liaising with a diverse range of people, be willing to go the extra mile to achieve a positive outcome and have the ability to think outside the box when faced with challenging issues.

Essential Experience:

  • Demonstrated technical knowledge and practical skills required to deliver technical services for theatre productions, events and exhibitions across a multi-venue facility
  • Specialist knowledge of stage operations, including stage management and technical expertise in staging, lighting and audio
  • Current Working with Children’s Check
  • Ability and willingness to work outside standard office hours, including weekends
  • Working Safely at Heights and Elevated Work Platform accreditations are both highly desirable.
  • Preferred candidates will be required to undergo a National Police Check as part of the recruitment process.
