Geelong Arts Centre is a State Government owned creative organisation under the umbrella of Creative Victoria.  We are currently undergoing a period of exciting and dynamic change in order to meet the cultural needs of a growing population and help secure Geelong’s position as a global city.

The Victorian State Government has committed $128m funding for the final stage of the Centre’s redevelopment, planned for completion in 2023. This investment will result in a world-class arts facility becoming the cultural heart of Geelong and the G21 region.

About the team

The Technical team sits within the Production and Presenter Services department that comprises teams charged with delivering production, events services, venue hire, business development and relationship management. The Geelong Arts Centre prides itself on delivering an annual programme of high-quality performances, functions and events. In order to achieve this, the Centre’s Technical Team foster and maintain positive relations with many stakeholders in the community; and ensure workplace health and safety is the fundamental focus.

About the role

Seeking a skilled and experienced Technical Operations Manager to join us in delivering excellence in the performing arts!

This is a rare permanent full-time opportunity for a Technical Operations Manager, who will be responsible for developing, providing and implementing the Centre’s technical services, systems and processes to ensure artists, performers, hirers and presenters can realise their creative vision.

With an emphasis on building a highly skilled and motivated technical operations team with a culture of safety, service excellence and enjoyment, the incumbent is also responsible for managing costs, risk and safety across technical operations through continuous improvement and a sound foundation of policies, systems and administration.

 About you

To be successful, it is essential that you’ll have:

  • At least five years’ experience in the technical management of a multifaceted theatre venue.
  • A passion for the arts and developing a highly skilled and motivated technical operations team with a culture of safety and technical excellence.
  • Proven ability to manage projects, competing prioritises and manage multiple stakeholder demands.
  • Sound knowledge of and experience in managing risk, safety and in building operational systems which ensure safe and effective technical support for artists, performers and hirers.
  • The capacity to combine a focus on future directions and development together with ensuring a sound foundation of policies, systems and administration.
