Technical Manager (Fixed Term 2 years)

$104,008 plus superannuation

About the Position

The Technical Manager provides operational and technical support to the Head of Operations, the Operations department and organisation. The Technical Manager provides leadership to the technical team and contributes proactively to the organisation’s management of statutory obligations regarding Workplace Health and Safety, production processes, budget, resource allocation and technology required for the efficient delivery of events to international standard.

We are looking for an experienced technical production specialist with strong communication, negotiation, and leadership skills to assist with the technical delivery of our extensive music and venue hire program of events. The role forms part of the Leadership Group and is a significant contributor to the production processes in place to deliver the extensive program of activity across the Centre, working closely with the technical & event management teams and the Programming department. The Technical Manager contributes to the asset strategy of the venue, ensuring the upkeep, application and improvement of the production infrastructure to international standard.

Located in the heart of Melbourne’s Arts Precinct, Melbourne Recital Centre’s location provides all the benefits of an inner-city workplace with excellent public transport connectivity.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Proven leadership and people management skills, including goal setting, coaching, effective oral and written communication and consultation. (essential)
  • Proven financial budget management and project management skills, including cost control. (essential)
  • Demonstrated expertise and transferrable skills in a technical production role for a performing arts venue or for a performing arts sector organisation. (essential)
  • A specific knowledge of the presentation of music, including a range of classical and contemporary genres, and production requirements. (essential)
  • A broad general knowledge across a variety of technical production fields including audio, lighting, projection, audio-visual, rigging and staging. (essential)
  • Proficient in WHS management, including crisis and business recovery management. (essential)
  • An ability to build and maintain relationships with people at all levels, forge partnerships and build trust across business areas, functions and organisations. (essential)
  • Knowledge and experience at using IT programs, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook and the ability to become a highly skilled user of the Melbourne Recital Centre’s venue management, and rostering systems (as required) for which training will be given. (essential)
  • Demonstrated capacity to be highly organised, determine workloads, set priorities, work independently and under pressure in a multi-task environment and complete tasks within specified timeframes. (essential)
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve and use initiative. (essential)
  • Highly developed interpersonal and negotiation skills, as well as high standards of personal presentation and the ability to maintain good working relationships with a wide range of people both internal and external to the organisation. (essential)
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills in English. (essential)


Salary

Classification is Melbourne Recital Centre EA 2021-2024 Grade 5.1 ($104,008) + superannuation guarantee.
