Technical Manager – Concourse Performing Arts Centre Chatswood

Century Venues, Australia’s most creative, innovative and entrepreneurial venue operator are the managers of The Concourse, a state-of-the-art hub for culture, entertainment, information, retail and food and beverage. Century Venues manages the performance venues of the complex which include a 1,000 seat Concert Hall, 500 seat Theatre, a 520 square metre function and corporate events venue as well as a Rehearsal Centre 

Conveniently located in the heart of Chatswood on Sydney’s North Shore, The Concourse is one of Sydney’s most vibrant and exciting entertainment destinations.

There is a need for an energetic and career focused Technical Manager. Reporting directly to the Operations Manager and working closely with Willoughby City Council, the owners of the site. This role will be responsible for the technical requirements of the arts venues and corporate functions spaces

This exciting role will be challenging and the successful candidate will have had previous experience within the event or venue management field and will demonstrate well developed business and financial management, team management and leadership. Excellent presentation, superior communication skills and decision-making under pressure are essential.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Implement, continually review and deliver staff training programs. 
  • Ensure that venue resources (labour and assets) are used in the most efficient and financially prudent way possible by maximising internal use of equipment and recovering labour costs whenever possible
  • Implement, continually review and ensure compliance with WHS procedures by creation and enforcement of policies and procedures and continue to review and update those procedures to ensure compliance and a safe workplace. 
  • Ensure, by recruitment and continual training, that the Concourse technical department is well resourced and that various departments are comfortably covered with a suitable skills base to ensure reduced overtime hours.
  • Setup, review and continually manage relationships with third party providers of equipment and labour resources to ensure maximum profitability and service for both the venue and its clients.
  • Maintenance, tracking and reporting of all assets associated with the technical department, review, repair and update as required and submit annually to council an update report on asset holdings.
  • Staff management of the fulltime and casual technical staff ensuring that all staff are productive, continually trained, working within all procedures and delivering the best financial result possible with high client satisfaction. 
  • Liase with Century Senior Management and Willoughby Council on technical matters including asset upgrades and replacements 
  • Co-ordinate alongside Willoughby Council Officers and Management building repairs and maintenance 
  • Assist during periods of heavy events and leave the role of Technical Supervisor 
  • Assist during large and complex events the role of Technical Supervisor.
