Technical Manager

Monash Academy of Performing Arts (MAPA) is a multi-purpose centre within the University that manages the University’s major performing arts infrastructure as an income generating business across five venues, the Robert Blackwood Hall, Alexander Theatre, George Jenkins Theatre, with the Sound Gallery and Jazz Club coming online in 2019. It programmes an annual season of events called MLIVE which position Monash University as a major contributor to the cultural life of Greater Melbourne and Australia; and provides professional production support for student and staff performances within the Faculty of Arts.

The new Ian Potter Centre for Performing Arts opening in 2019 heralds a new era of performing arts facilities at the Clayton campus which further enhance Monash’s commitment to supporting growth in the performing arts in Melbourne’s south-east, by providing state of the art technology including active acoustics, to professional productions, students, schools and community groups.

The Technical Manager is responsible for managing and overseeing the end to end delivery of all technical services provided in MAPA venues. Reporting to the Head of Operations, you will utilise your significant performing arts technical expertise and knowledge to ensure MAPA venues and equipment are maintained to a high standard and compliant with OH&S and industry standards. You will also provide leadership, management and training to MAPA’s team of continuing and casual technical staff, including work prioritisation and allocation, mentoring new staff and managing performance.

The successful candidate will have a qualification in Arts and Entertainment Management, or related field, and/or extensive relevant experience and management expertise in a combination of technical theatre operations, concert presentation and venue production management. You will also have well-developed team leadership skills including the ability to lead and motivate staff, review performance and set priorities.

If you believe you can fulfil these requirements, you are strongly encouraged to apply.

At Monash University, we are committed to being a Child Safe organisation. This position will require the incumbent to hold a valid Working with Children Check.

Your application must address the selection criteria. Please refer to “How to apply for Monash Jobs“.
