Technical Manager

We are looking for a Technical Manager to join the Perth Festival team on a 12 month, full-time, fixed-term contract. The ideal candidate will start as soon as possible.

This is a new senior role within the Production Department. They will play a pivotal role in planning, managing and executing the technical aspects of all theatre productions within the Festival. This includes overseeing technical design, equipment, crew management, and ensuring the highest standards of technical excellence are met.

Some of the key responsibilities of the role are to:

  • Develop and implement technical plans for all theatre productions, including set design, lighting, sound, and special effects
  • Provide draft drawings at early stage of concept for projects and work alongside the Technical Director in any necessary planning permission submissions.
  • Lead and manage the technical team, including technicians, designers, and contractors.
  • Develop and manage budgets for technical production costs.


The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Theatre Arts, Technical Production or related field (or demonstrated equivalent competency).
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in technical direction or management in a theatre environment.
  • Strong understanding of and experience with Work Health and Safety procedures and reporting.
  • Demonstrated networks within the Arts industry.
