Technical Manager

Griffin Theatre Company is the only company in Australia exclusively dedicated to the production of new Australian plays. We make theatre about now. We believe there is no more important theatre in the country.

About the role

Working closely with the Production Manager and General Manager, Griffin’s Technical Manager is responsible for delivering the technical requirements of all Griffin’s Main Season productions and development projects, supporting independent/external producers and overseeing the operations and maintenance requirements of the company’s home venue, the SBW Stables Theatre.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and manage all technical and operational requirements of Griffin facilities, particularly the SBW Stables Theatre

• Provide technical support to the creative and production teams of Griffin productions and Griffin Special Event producers and artists

• Lead the technical bump-in and bump-out of Griffin Main and Special Event seasons

• Provide technical support and guidance to independent and external producers and artists

• Contribute to making Griffin activities and operations more environmentally sustainable

Selection Criteria

• Extensive experience in Technical Management for a performing arts company or venue, including expert technical knowledge in one of more of the following disciplines: lighting, audio, video

• Knowledge of CAD/Vectorworks, QLab, Microsoft Office and other software essential to the delivery of staged works

• An empathy and understanding of the artistic process together with the ability to work with creatives to realise their vision

• Demonstrated ability to manage projects involving multiple deadlines, budgets and stakeholders, an ability to prioritise and to remain calm under pressure

• Demonstrated ability to motivate, support and manage staff and service providers

• Proven high-level communication skills, in particular excellent attention to detail, strong negotiation and relationship-building skills

• Knowledge of and commitment to Workplace Health and Safety in an arts environment

• A current Australian driver’s license
