Technical Manager

Want to work in a brand-new state-of-the-art Theatre? Do you have strong technical ability and people management skills? We want to hear from you!

We have a position available for a Technical Manager to join the Sydney Coliseum Theatre at West HQ. This landmark venue is capable of hosting major musicals, concerts, comedy, live music and family entertainment for audiences of up to 2200.

Who’s right for the job?

The successful candidate will:

* Take accountability for the execution and delivery of productions and events in the Sydney Coliseum Theatre;
* Establish safe and consistent operation of the staging and installation of shows through to rehearsal and performance periods;
* Provide expert advise and solutions to hirers to ensure the delivery of the highest standards of technical, back of house and hirer services;
* Supervise the Head of Audio and Head of Sound positions and coordinate the day to day activities of the technical department.

What will you need to be considered?

* Demonstrated experience working as a Head Mechanist or equivalent role for a minimum of two years.
* Practical knowledge on the operation of various stage machinery and construction hand tools.
* Demonstrated confidence in leading a team of staging professionals.
* Ability to manage small and large teams of production staff and contractors ensuring schedules and safety standards are met.
* An understanding of the requirements in venue and daily maintenance of theatres.
* Capable of carrying out manual handling tasks and comfortable working at heights.
* Demonstrate ability to work with creative and technical personnel, artists and performers.
* Ability to provide technical advice and support to the broader company as required.
* Knowledge and understanding of safe work practices.
* Previous people management experience.
* Excellent time management and attention to detail.
* Extensive experience in managing external suppliers to deliver events on time and on budget.
* Demonstrated existing relationships with major events and performances in Australia.
* Ability to adapt to rapidly changing situations and work under pressure using tact, diplomacy and flexibility.
* First Aid and CPR (or willingness to obtain).
* Full Australian Work Rights.
