About the Role
As Technical Director, you will be the driving force behind the seamless delivery of technical services for all productions and events. You’ll lead and inspire a talented technical team, ensuring every show, event, and function runs smoothly and safely.
Key responsibilities include:
- Oversee the Technical Department’s operations across all venues, ensuring consistent, professional service delivery.
- Lead and mentor Production Managers and Head Technicians, coordinating crewing, staffing, and equipment hires.
- Foster a culture of safety, collaboration, and excellence within the technical team.
- Develop and implement operational plans to ensure efficiency and profitability.
- Oversee all technical and production services, including production planning, scheduling, and technical support for theatre and corporate events.
- Liaise with internal departments, external production companies, and contractors to ensure technical requirements are met.
- Manage technical equipment procurement, maintenance, and lifecycle planning.
- Ensure compliance with Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) standards, including maintaining and reviewing venue-specific OHS documentation and procedures.
- Manage the technical department budget, including staffing, equipment hire, capital expenditure, and preparing financial reports and forecasts for senior management.
- Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, representing Marriner Group with professionalism.
- Undertake other duties as reasonably required to support the successful operation of the venues and delivery of events.
About You
You are a seasoned technical leader with a passion for live entertainment and a proven track record in technical management for theatre, events, or live productions. You thrive in dynamic environments, bring a positive, solution-focused attitude, and inspire those around you.
Ideally, you will bring:
- Significant experience in technical management within theatre, live entertainment, or events.
- Strong skills in production planning, crewing logistics, and venue operations.
- In-depth knowledge of technical equipment, electrical systems, and safe work practices.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Meticulous attention to detail and strong problem-solving abilities.
- Flexibility, resilience, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Financial acumen, with experience managing budgets and driving revenue through technical services.
- A comprehensive understanding of theatre terminology, traditions, and performance etiquette.
- A proactive, hands-on approach and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
