Team Leader Technical

Townsville Civic Theatre is North Queensland’s premier cultural facility owned and managed by Townsville City Council. Since it’s opening in 1978, the theatre continues to be a dynamic centre of entertainment, providing performances in dance, music, opera, comedy and drama.

The Team Leader Technical is a technical specialist in staging, lighting and sound, and leads a team of theatre technicians who stage and execute the performances at Townsville Civic Theatre and other venues and outdoor performances across the city. The position works with producers and promoters to meet specific technical requirements for their performances.

Our successful candidate will need:

Tertiary qualification in Technical Theatre and /or 5 years’ experience in a regional venue, major performing arts complex or production company, managing and supervising sound, audio visual, staging, lighting, vision and other technical/theatrical services.

Demonstrated experience in financial management, including budgeting and reporting and the ability to coordinate activities of staff within operational budget capacity.

Excellent ability to lead and motivate performance and develop staff to meet outcomes within a diverse fast-paced technical environment.  Includes the demonstrated ability to develop and deliver training according to a learning framework that supports service delivery.

Excellent knowledge and substantial practical experience in theatre staging, lighting, sound and audio visual including systems and policies.

Excellent knowledge and substantial experience of rigging and use of an automated fly system.

Highly developed computer skills which may include Microsoft suite of applications; web, CAD-based programmes and event management systems.

Demonstrated high level of skills and experience in effective communication, negotiating, problem solving, influencing and relationship building across diverse performing arts stakeholder groups.

Ability to actively participate in the wider arts team including the ability to positively contribute towards the planning and achievement of strategic and operational goals within the Arts area.

Highly developed time management skills, ability to prioritise and meet specific deadlines.
