TASCAM has announced the release of firmware update version 1.10 for the FR-AV4 32-bit float 4-channel field recorder with mixer, timecode generator and HDMI sync that introduces a new Auto Mixer feature designed to streamline mixing for meetings, interviews, panel discussions, and environments where multi-microphone speaking environments will be recorded.
The new Auto Mixer function is designed to intelligently manage multiple microphone inputs by prioritizing the microphone currently in use while attenuating unused channels. This reduces ambient noise and helps improve overall mix clarity while highlighting those speaking. Settings can be done on the physical unit itself or from the TASCAM Recorder Connect app.
TASCAM has taken a gain sharing approach to Auto Mix. Gain sharing Auto Mix allows the FR-AV4 to balance channel gain across all active microphones while stabilizing output levels, resulting in a more transparent mix that preserves the presence of all microphones, particularly useful for interviews, speeches and conferences.
“Auto Mix enhances the already robust toolset of the FR-AV4,” says Sean Daily, product specialist for TASCAM, “positioning this incredible unit as a premier recorder for speaking engagements of all types. Between 32-bit float recording, Ultra HDDA microphone preamps, syncing, control, and now Auto Mix, the FR-AV4 is a must-have for anybody in the field recording audio.”
