An exceptional opportunity currently exists for an experienced and motivated individual to join our Production Services team in the full-time 12-month term role of Systems Technician – Lighting.
Reporting to the Manager – Lighting and Electrical Services, this role will be responsible for supporting the Lighting Unit through the maintenance, expansion and development of current and new data networks for the lighting control systems throughout QPAC, along with providing direct operational support when required.
This position requires a high calibre individual who is suitably experienced in lighting control systems and data networks. Customer service is of paramount importance to this role, as is experience in trouble-shooting data issues across a range of control consoles, data distribution equipment and lighting network protocols, including, but not limited to Grand MA Net, ETC Net, Streaming ACN, DALI, USITT DMX512 and RDM (Remote Device Management).
Other responsibilities include supervising and/or undertaking the set-up, programming and expansion of lighting control systems and networks for productions when the in-house or installed systems do not meet specific production requirements, and assist the Head and Senior Technicians in relation to lighting control systems networking and data transfer for all installed lighting control systems QPAC-wide.
Suitable applicants will ideally have tertiary qualifications in the Arts, Live Production, Theatre and Events, and/or relevant industry experience. To be successful for this position, you will also possess:
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues relating to programming, and clashing IP addresses, along with failing, damaged or sub-specification connection cabling and/or connectors effectively and efficiently.
- Demonstrated ability to patch, program and manipulate DMX and Data distribution systems toward the smooth running of all Lighting Control systems in any venue or space throughout QPAC.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot DMX and data networks (across a broad range of control protocols and consoles) to minimise or remove any potential lost-time occurrences for both internal and external productions within QPAC.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Lighting and IT based networking systems.
- Experience with a broad range of lighting control systems, including but not limited to Grand MA2 and/or MA3 and data networks is essential.
- A current ACMA “Cablers” certification or licence would be highly regarded.
The successful candidate will be required to be available for day, evening and weekend hours in accordance with performance schedules and requirements. It will require the individual to have a high degree of flexibility in relation to their work hours, sometimes at short notice.
