Position Objectives
Council owns and manages the operations of the Phee Broadway Theatre and the Castlemaine Town Hall. The theatre is programmed and is also available for hire by community and commercial hirers.
The Technician collaborates with the Venues and Events team, community, and commercial hirers to run the technical aspects of a production and to ensure safe operations of specialised technical equipment.
The role
Key responsibilities undertaken by the Supervising Technician include:
- Coordination of the technical production aspects of all community and commercial hire agreements
- Liase with event production personnel, including conducting client inductions
- Collaborate with event coordinators and clients to meet their technical requirements
- Lead setup, pack down, and operation of audio, lighting and video equipment for performances and events
- Manage inventory, maintenance schedules, and keep up to date with relevant policies to support the professional and safe operations of the Phee Theatre, Town Hall and some outdoor events
- Where required, help develop policies and procedures and ensure a high level of customer satisfaction
Our ideal candidate
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- relevant industry qualifications, or demonstrated experience managing and operating technical equipment in a performing arts venue
- proficiency in the use of computers, relevant software and equipment
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Specialist knowledge of working with community users, touring theatrical companies and the wider industry sector
- An understanding of specialist equipment in a standard theatre, and knowledge of the operation and maintenance of this equipment
- Willingness to undergo further industry training if required
- Flexibility to work some weeknights and weekends
