Staging & Theatre Technician

We have an exciting opportunity for a Theatre Technician to join our dynamic Performing Arts team working across our Caulfield and Wheelers Hill Campuses on a casual basis. Reporting to the Theatre Manager at each, you will provide effective technical services for events and assist with the overall venue operations and processes.  As a key member of our team, you will work within a fully resourced, professional, 560-seat theatre space, complete with a full fly tower and orchestra pit, as well as in each of the Black Theatres and other, smaller, event spaces.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expertise and support around lighting and audio requirements
  • Assist in the management of all Performing Arts facilities systems and maintain their effective operation
  • Ensure effective set-up and pack-down of equipment and provide technical support for performances and events
  • Contribute to efficient operation and safety of the facilities, and assist in the supervision of activities performed in the areas of the venue
  • Assist with securing the venue and the safety of its occupants by working within the venue’s operational policies and guidelines
  • Model and live the Caulfield Grammar School values and behaviours

Key Skills:

  • Experience and/or knowledge of the technical requirements and OH&S in a performing arts centre, and ability to support others in these functions
  • Current working knowledge of the mechanics and operation of manual single-purchase flying system and counterweight flying system, including adequate numerical skills as required
  • Proficient and creative skills as a lighting board operator and audio desk operator
  • Venue Technical Training Certificate from an accredited organisation or equivalent technical experience or OHS qualification
  • Have a Victorian Employee Working with Children Check, and First Aid Certification or be prepared to obtain these
