Stage Manager/Production Coordinator

The Role

The Stage Manager (SM) is responsible for running the productions and events in delivery mode. The position is production-focused and supports musicians, conductors, artists and other related roles during production. The SM runs all orchestral rehearsals, performances, and related activities. The role also provides production and administrative support for the Production Manager.

Skills Required

To be successful you will need to have:

  • Demonstrated experience and success in the stage management of professional and commercial productions;
  • Proven experience in the risk assessment and risk management of staging rehearsals, performances and events;
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, a team player and a proven ability to work well with creative and artistic persons;
  • Excellent organisational skills, an effective problem solver with demonstrated conflict management and negotiation skills;
  • An ability to read music; and
  • A proven ability to read scale drawings of stage layouts.


You will also be able to demonstrate:

  • Expertise in translating current Workplace Health & Safety legislation to stage craft;
  • Demonstrated experience in Workplace Health & Safety practices and systems in professional classical and commercial productions;
  • A demonstrated knowledge and interest in classical music and the orchestral environment.
  • A demonstrated ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within the team and display a proactive approach to achieving objectives;
  • A high level of attention to detail in both an operational / stage management and administrative capacity;
  • A willingness to be hands-on and apply a practical approach to tasks; and
  • A willingness to work on weekends and outside standard business hours.
