Sound Technician

An 8-month contract for a Sound Technician to work across Belvoir St Theatre and Hayes Theatre Co. The role is responsible for overseeing the smooth operation of the installation and operation of sound throughout production seasons.

The role is expected to work in collaboration with each venue’s Technical Manager to create and maintain a high level of teamwork and co-operation within the department and across production teams.

The Sound Technician is responsible for overseeing the smooth operation of the installation and operation of sound for the season.  

The role is expected to work in collaboration with each venue’s Technical Manager to create and maintain a high level of teamwork and co-operation within the department and across production teams.  

The role will work closely with the sound crew and other members of the Production Team, under the guidance of the Technical Manager to achieve design standards set for a production, on time and in budget by utilising production and organisational resources to plan, implement, and achieve set goals and objectives

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Assist with technical operation of lighting, sound or staging when required for Belvoir St Theatre and Hayes Theatre Co productions.  This may include live sound mixing and radio mic maintenance during the season under consultation with the Technical Manager and the Head of Production.
  • Be present for bump in, bump out and all performances as arranged with the Production Manager.
  • Ensure all sound equipment is in working order before each performance and to notify management if anything is not working
  • Under supervision of the Technical Manager or the Senior Venue Technician, responsible for cleaning, repairing and maintaining technical equipment including testing and tagging.   
  • Power equipment on and off before and after each performance in liaison with the venue Assist the Production Department with other general building maintenance, repairs and other general on-site production staff duties that may arise day to day. This will be defined by show duties and call times.
  • Undertaking occasional tasks in conjunction with the Front of House Manager. They are the key technical contact during the show’s duration.


Selection Criteria Aptitudes/Abilities/Skills

  • Proven technical expertise and technical problem-solving skills
  • Proven high standard of oral communication
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team
  • Proven high standard of attention to detail and ‘follow-through’  Preferred experience
  • Experience in lighting and sound operation, preferably in an arts or events organisation
  • Experience in the use of ETC lighting consoles
  • Experience in the use of digital sound desks and sound based software e.g. Qlab
  • Experience in the use of staging equipment
  • Experience in working with a wide range of people
  • Experience in working in a changing and dynamic environment
  • Experience in the use of PC computer hardware and software including Word and Excel.  Knowledge
  • Knowledge of technical equipment and practices, particularly lighting and sound operations
  • Knowledge of bump-in and bump-out schedules and procedures
  • Knowledge of Work Health and Safety issues, particularly in theatre
  • Demonstrated interest, sensitivity and compatibility with actors, artists and the creative process.
