The Century Group is a live entertainment producer, festival presenter and the operator of a suite of venues that includes the Enmore Theatre, Metro Theatre, the Factory Theatre complex, the Sydney Comedy Store and The Concourse Performing Arts Centre Chatswood. We seek highly energised professionals to work within our Venue Events and Production team across the live arts, music, business, corporate and community events sectors.
The position is a full-time Sound Technician working across all our performance spaces.
You will be a vibrant self-starter with a personal commitment to service and client satisfaction, and you will be responsible for setting up and operating audio equipment such as microphones and sound mixing consoles for live theatre and concert musical performances.
Underpinning your role will be demonstrated excellence in personal organisation, ability to adhere to systems and procedures, workflow management, prioritisation, completion, advance production and operational requirements. You will be a problem solver and lateral thinker and can confidently deliver high-quality audio results with the highest level of customer and client service.
A typical day will involve:
- Setting up sound equipment before the event
- Synchronising pre-recorded sound effects with live sound and working with performers and managers to achieve strong sound levels
- Managing microphones, audio filters, audio mixer consoles, equalisers and reverb devices during a live performance or function
- Packing down equipment after the event
- Maintaining and testing equipment to ensure it remains in good working order
- Transporting equipment to venues as required
- Liaising with other production staff
- Ordering necessary equipment
- Complying with occupational health and safety regulations
Preferred selection criteria includes;
- Qualifications in Sound Production/Engineering or related
- At least 5 years experience in a similar role
- Understanding end to end process of delivering production and resources for live events at our venue
- Excellent planning and prioritising skills.
- High levels of interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to liaise with a range of diverse stakeholders.
- Strong knowledge of microphone selection and placement
- Strong knowledge of audio consoles and outboard gear
- Experience coordinating and interpreting production requirements and resources.
- Understanding of staging, technical requirements of live and theatre performance, including sound and lighting requirements.
- Understanding of venue legal compliance like occupational health and safety, rigging, and noise levels etc
