Solid State Logic has announced the SSL 360° v1.8 software update, which adds a new SSL 360° Link Bus Compressor plugin as well as Link V1.1, and it’s available free of charge via the company website.
With the new SSL 360° Link Bus Compressor plugin, users can now map and control any third-party plugin directly from the Bus Compressor section of UC1. Further, gain reduction metering from compatible third-party plugins can also be assigned to display on the UC1 Bus Compressor meter and Channel Strip gate/comp gain reduction metering (360° Link v1.1),for enhanced visual feedback and control. SSL includes factory maps for Bus Compressor style plugins from Slate Digital, Brainworx, Waves and Universal Audio.
New v1.8 software also removes limitations on how many Bus Compressor instances may be used with UC1. Now, users can access and control up to 192 instances of Bus Compressor 2 or third-party plugins via the 360° Link Bus Compressor, extending the power of UC1 and the 360° Plug-in Mixer. The v1.8 update also improves general visibility on the UC1, since at the top area of its screen now displays the name of the hosted third-party plugin when scrolling with the “Channel” encoder, helping identify different plugins within the same track. Third-party plugin parameter labels are also visible in the “Extended” functions menu.
In parallel, SSL also announces two enhancements to SSL 12 through this software update. Users can now access a “polarity invert” feature that is now present on the analogue and ADAT input channels, and also mono sum compensation can be adjusted to any value between -3.0 to -6.0 dB. Finally, on the SSL 12, monitoring now automatically dims when the TALK button is engaged.
The “hybrid” hardware/software combination of UC1 plugin controller and SSL 360° software is the result of decades of console design, providing a “knob-per-function” control of SSL’s 4K E, 4K B, Channel Strip 2 and Bus Compressor 2 plugins. With SSL 360° Link plugin and the latest v1.8 update, UC1 users have more control over sonic flavors by accessing a broader palette of plugins, providing an almost infinite range of creative options.
By using 360° Link, available free of charge in AAX Native/AU/VST3/VST formats via the Solid State Logic website, music producers and engineers can access any plugin within the SSL 360° environment and its ‘virtual console’ hybrid workflow. The software is available here free of charge via the SSL Downloads Manager. Note that third-party “hosted” plugins must be in VST3 format.
