Victoria’s Benalla Performing Arts and Convention Centre (BPACC) is the region’s premium destination for theatre, performing arts, movies, convention and conference hire. The venue features a 344-seat tiered auditorium, three professional meeting rooms, and a cinema kiosk.
Lighting designer Tom Willis has done a lot of work with BPACC supporting their touring shows and their production requirements. Recently the venue decided to replace their old incandescent cyc lights and fresnels as they were becoming dangerous to use.
“They were in a desperate need of an upgrade,” said Tom. “I recommended LED replacements for their lower ongoing running costs, output, safety, lower heat loading on the venue and the fact that you don’t have to replace lamps.”
Having recommended ShowPro LED products in the past, Tom had no hesitation in choosing twenty-four ShowPro LED fresnels with DMX zoom and ten LED Cyc RGBWA units for the venue.
“The ShowPro fixtures have completely changed the amount of light and colour and vibrancy possible on that stage from what was previously there,” remarked Tom. “The LED Cyc units are considerably brighter. The cyc units they had before drew heaps of power, took up a lot of bar space and gave inconsistent coverage of the cyc. The ShowPro Cycs are super consistent and super bright, you generally only need to run them at 30 – 40% to get a really strong saturated colour on the cyc.”
