Short-term seasonal technical contracts

The National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) is Australia’s premier training ground for future leaders and practitioners in the dramatic arts. Located at Kensington in Sydney, it is a Centre of excellence in education and training. NIDA is unique in the world for its practice-based and industry-relevant training in the range that it offers which includes Acting, Design, Costume, Properties and Objects, Technical Theatre and Stage Management, Scenic Construction, Writing for Performance, Directing and Cultural Leadership.

The National Institute of Dramatic Art features a large range of performance venues, holding student productions, as well as internal and external events. 

The Technical Operations Department draws upon a team of reliable, enthusiastic, and hardworking technicians to provide exceptional technical skills to the highest of their ability while delivering consistent and quality results. NIDA’s Technicians are engaged to perform a variety of tasks within our theatres across a large range of activities including, bump in and bump out of internal and external productions, operations of lighting and audio visual equipment, operation of counterweight fly systems and client/venue supervision. 

Other roles technicians perform throughout the year include repairs and maintenance, archival of productions and AV support. 

About the roles

NIDA Technical Operations is currently seeking skilled technical theatre operators to fulfil short term seasonal contracts through the end of year dance season in the Parade Theatres.

Experience working in a fast-paced theatre environment, and excellence in customer service are key to these roles.

These roles are 8 – week seasonal contracts from Thursday 26th October to Wednesday 20th December (inclusive).  These dates could be negotiated for shorter term if required.

For successful candidates there is opportunities for ongoing casual work and repeat seasonal contracts.

Considerations:

  • You are required to have the right to live and work in Australia to apply for this role.
  • A valid Working with Children Check for NSW is essential. Having one or being willing to get one and to support and implement NIDA’s Child Safe Strategies is necessary to undertake this role.
