shake & stir Use Projection to Change Worlds

shake & stir is one of the country’s leading contemporary theatre companies touring Australia and New Zealand since 2006. As well as producing mainstage shows, shake & stir are known for their bold educational in-school productions and at any given time, they can have four teams on the road with a repertoire of up to 15 shows – seen by an audience in excess of 180,000 students, annually.

All shows are done on the same set but with different projected backgrounds replacing traditional set pieces. When you think about it, there’s no better way to deliver a show to a screen-addicted age group! A single team may visit multiple schools in one day and so set up needs to be swift.

The company has owned an AV Stumpfl screen for many years and did not hesitate to choose the same brand when they recently upgraded their equipment.

“We needed screens with a high quality frame that could be set up and packed down three times a day very quickly,” commented Mark Middleton, Operations & Production Manager. “In between performances they’re packed in a van and driven to the next school. Not many screens are built to cope with such a rigorous life.”

The decision was made to purchase two AV Stumpfl Monoblox32 screens, both with a 16:9 frame but different sizes. The Monoblox 32 has a single piece aluminum frame with snap joints available in sizes up to 5 metres wide. The entire frame block unfolds and the snap joints lock automatically, making set up a breeze. Plus no parts can get lost!

“It’s lightweight and can be set up by one person,” added Mark. “I honestly don’t think there’s another brand out there that could cope with the workout our screens get!”

AV Stumpfl manufacture exceptional quality, portable projection screens that are used all over the world. The screens are flexible, durable and quick to assemble, requiring no tools. The AV Stumpfl innovative locking system makes them the professional’s choice for quality and durability.
