Service Technician

About the Role

The Service Technician shall, repair, maintain and service equipment sold by Jands and support all departments within the scope of the position.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for the service of the Company’s range of products sold to customers.
  • Undertake initial testing and troubleshooting of products. 
  • Diagnose repairs, identify, and replace defective components as required. 
  • Diagnose repairs and provide recommended cost of repairs to Service Administration Team. (Quotes – Out of Warranty or damaged goods)
  • Liaise with both account and non-account customers when needed to assure product performance through handling problems requiring considerable technical ability.
  • Assist with Pre-Delivery Inspections
  • Modify and update products as required as per manufacturer’s directions. e.g. Firmware or hardware. 
  • Accurately record and document works, including but not limited to, suppliers’ requirements, schedules performed, parts, labour time and other relevant details for each repair/service/modification/update into CRM System.
  • Ability to work unsupervised and organise one’s daily tasks based on priorities set by the Service Manager and/or Service Team. 
  • Respond to requests for emergency repairs when required and as directed by the Service Manager or Service Team.
  • Ensure that circuitry is assembled in accord with specifications and set up standard test equipment to evaluate functional and operational performance.
  • Assist with unpacking and storage of goods within the Service Area and relevant areas as required. 
  • Assisting with the general upkeep of the Service Warehouse, in relation to tidiness of repairs and condition of area as required.
  • Recommend in keeping required Spare Part quantities or new items to be created, to the Spare Parts Controller.
  • Ensure Test Equipment is kept in full working condition, report any issues to the Service Manager.
  • Undertake general duties associated with the department’s peripheral activities as directed.

Key requirements for this role include:

  • Requires a minimum qualification of Electronics – Trade Certificate III or equivalent practical experience in related industries.
  • Current Drivers Licence – Class C minimum
  • High-level circuit board re-work skills, coupled with the ability to read, interpret and explain circuit diagrams.
  • Proven fault-finding skills in digital and analogue electronics.
  • Distributed Audio Network experience.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Knowledge of Pronto-Xi Enterprise Management System (Desirable)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, coupled with well-developed interpersonal skills. 
  • High-level organisational skills, ability to prioritise, organise and coordinate a multiple of tasks.
  • Pride of workmanship showing attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work efficiently within a team environment and with minimum supervision.
