Senior Video Technician / Systems Engineer

TDC is Australia’s leading video technology and production company. We are seeking a genuinely senior Video Technician / Systems Engineer to join our Sydney team and take a leading role in shaping, delivering, and continuously improving the technical standards behind some of the most complex live events, theatre productions, and broadcast projects in the region.

This role is for someone who carries technical authority, obsesses over detail, and is trusted to make decisions that directly impact live show outcomes. You will have real influence over how video systems are designed, built, operated, and evolved across the business.

The Role

You will lead the design, engineering, and delivery of advanced video systems, including large-format projection, LED, media servers, camera systems, and show control. You will act as a senior technical authority across pre-production, prep, onsite delivery, and live operation.

This role carries real-time accountability for live delivery – you will be the final technical escalation point during rehearsals and shows, trusted to make calm, decisive calls under pressure.

You will work closely with technical project managers, senior engineers, and video technicians to ensure systems are not just impressive, but rock solid, repeatable, safe, and well documented.

What you will be responsible for:

  • Owning the technical design and delivery of complex video systems from concept through to show completion.
  • Engineering reliable, scalable solutions across LED, projection, media servers, cameras, and control platforms.
  • Producing and reviewing schematics, signal flows, drawings, and system documentation.
  • Balancing pre-production system design with hands-on onsite operation, including rehearsals, live delivery, and recovery from failure.
  • Leading onsite technical teams and specialist freelancers with clarity, authority, and confidence.
  • Acting as the senior technical escalation point during prep, onsite delivery, and live troubleshooting.
  • Driving continuous improvement in systems, workflows, and technical standards.
  • Mentoring video technicians and developing technical capability across the team.
  • Contributing to R&D, new technology evaluation, and future capability planning.

What you bring:

  • Significant experience as a senior video engineer or technical lead in live events, theatre, or broadcast.
  • Deep, hands-on expertise in at least one core discipline such as LED systems, large-scale projection, media servers, or camera workflows.
  • A proven track record delivering technically complex live shows under pressure, with clear ownership of system design, onsite decisions, and fault resolution.
  • Strong systems thinking, documentation discipline, and attention to detail.
  • Confidence influencing teams, peers, and clients on technical decisions.
  • A mindset focused on quality, consistency, safety, and continual improvement.
  • Calm, methodical problem-solving in high-stakes live environments.
  • Experience delivering live events or broadcast projects internationally or across multiple markets is highly regarded.

This role is not:

  • A junior or mid-level operating position
  • A purely installation or corporate AV role
  • A role where technical decisions are routinely escalated to someone else

If you are not regularly trusted to lead live systems and make critical technical decisions onsite, this role is unlikely to be the right fit.

Why TDC

  • We actively encourage applications from experienced international candidates and have experience supporting relocation and employer-sponsored visas for senior technical roles.
  • Industry-leading salary aligned to the Australian market.
  • Performance bonuses and recognition tied to impact, not noise.
  • Comprehensive benefits and wellbeing program.
  • Clear technical career pathways that value expertise, not just management titles.
  • The opportunity to shape how video technology is delivered at the highest level.
