About Student And Scholarly Services
Student and Scholarly Services (SASS) provides student administration and services from recruitment and point of enquiry to graduation. This team also delivers wellbeing and scholarly services to students and staff.
About The Role
As the Senior Theatre Technician, you will liaise with licencees/presenters of in-scope venues, creatives, Visitor Services, other stakeholders and be responsible for the supervision of casual technical staff ensuring the safe and efficient bump-in, technical operations and bump-out of client performances and events.
In a typical week at work, you may:
- Liaise and work closely with the Production and Technical Services Coordinator to ensure all users/presenter requirements are met in a timely and efficient manner
- Coordinate general day to day venue operations and/or work within a particular technical role (i.e.: Lighting, Sound, Staging/Mechanist) according to individual training and expertise and event/performance requirements, whilst maintaining the highest standards
- Coordinate other casual technical staff during the bump in and bump out of shows and events, ensuring venue is reset and ready for next user
About You
You will have excellent interpersonal communication skills, paired with the ability to work competently within a fast-paced, busy environment in conditions such as noise, heights and dark/dim/absence of lighting. You will also have the ability to undertake manual handling of heavy items and equipment and a proven ability to work effectively within a team. In addition, you will have flexible availability to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Ideally, you will further have:
- Qualifications in a relevant discipline, minimum 3 years’ experience ideally in the area of performing arts or a related field, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education/training
- Working knowledge of and experience in preparing, setting up, testing and operating professional staging, sound, vision and lighting equipment within a live production and events environment according to training and expertise
- Experience in the basic repair and maintenance of production equipment
- Knowledge of safe work practices associated with Performing Arts venues including emergency management procedures and manual handling of potential heavy items associated with setup and pack down of events
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office suite of software
