Senior Technician Lighting

Are you a skilled lighting professional with a passion for the arts and technical excellence? 

We are looking for a full time Senior Technician, Lighting to play a key role at HOTA (Home of the Arts), ensuring that all lighting systems, equipment, and technical resources meet the highest operational standards while fulfilling the needs of our diverse clients and performances.

As the Senior Technician, Lighting, you will oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring that HOTA’s technical facilities run smoothly and safely. You will be an integral part of a dynamic team, managing equipment, coordinating staff, and providing top-tier technical support for exhibitions, events, and performances across our performing and visual arts spaces.

Key responsibilities of the role: 

Technical Services Development & Improvement

  • Contribute to the enhancement of technical services across HOTA’s performing and visual arts spaces.
  • Assist in refining operational procedures for technical service delivery, ensuring alignment with client needs and organizational standards.


Equipment & Operational Management

  • Provide recommendations on equipment upgrades, maintenance, and investment to ensure top-tier functionality.
  • Oversee equipment operation and project execution, stepping in as an operator or installer when necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with departmental standards and HOTA policies for equipment use.


Gallery & Exhibition Support

  • Serve as the primary contact for all audio-visual equipment used in gallery spaces.
  • Lead the coordination, installation, and programming of technical elements for exhibitions, special events, and performances.
  • Assist with the maintenance and safe operation of lighting equipment across HOTA venues.


Creative & Technical Execution

  • Collaborate with clients and the technical department to plan and execute creative and technical lighting designs for various productions.
  • Operate lighting equipment during events and performances, ensuring high-quality delivery.


Technical Documentation & CAD Drawings

  • Develop and adapt technical plans using CAD software for clarity and accuracy.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for all technical services and operations.


Ideal Candidate Will Have:

Lighting Systems Expertise: A comprehensive understanding of lighting systems, with a strong knowledge of industry ‘best practices’, operational strategies, and the latest trends in lighting technology and techniques.

Training & Development: The ability to train and develop team members on technical systems and procedures, ensuring high standards of operation and safety.

Technical Qualifications:

  • Formal qualifications in lighting systems (or related fields) would be highly advantageous.
  • Experience with programming and operating MA Lighting consoles in theatre & other live environments.

Software Proficiency: Proficiency in using CAD software to create and modify technical plans, diagrams, and schematics.

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Test and Tag license (preferred)
  • Current Driver’s License
  • First Aid Certificate
  • Working with Children Check (Blue Card)
  • EWPA Yellow Card
  • Intermediate Riggers Ticket (or a willingness to obtain)
