Rigging Technician

About the Role:

We are looking for a full-time Rigging Technician to join our AV Services team and oversee all rigging activities across the Theatres, Exhibition Halls and Convention Centre. Reporting to the Rigging Manager, you will execute setups, bump-outs and operation of rigging equipment ensuring the highest safety standards are adhered to under the direction of the Rigging Managers.

You will maintain all rigging equipment to ensure it is in good working order and organise repairs and maintenance as required. You will:

  • Execute set-ups and bump-outs using hoists, truss systems, drapes, ropes, and various other rigging equipment.
  • Brief stakeholders prior to them commencing work when venue is deemed a restricted area due to high-risk work taking place.
  • Perform high-risk work at heights using EWP, climbing equipment, and working off catwalks.
  • Work to production schedules whilst ensuring WHS requirements are adhered to.
  • Interpret floorplans and rigging plans to accurately measure and mark up setups.
  • Complete all rigging and staging production requests from various internal departments.
  • Monitor all high-risk work being carried out by all users of ICC and report issues to the Rigging Manager.
  • Brief and lead teams of casual and contractor staff during setups and bump-outs
  • Assist the Staging Department when required.
  • Ensure all rigging and staging systems are regularly serviced and where necessary, carry out repairs.
  • Ensure adequate levels of equipment and consumables are available for use as required and report as required to the Rigging Manager.
  • Assist with removal and replacement of faulty equipment.
  • Liaise as necessary with the Building Services department and Spotless FM on building maintenance issues as required.
  • Ensure personal safety and the safety of co-workers, contractors, labour hire, patrons, and the public through co-operation with management, ensuring compliance with the WHS Management System and relevant legislation.

This role involves day, evening and weekend work and will be required to work shift work. Early starts and/or late finishes depending on business levels or as required by events.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Equivalent Degree/ certifications in AV/or similar.
  • Extensive experience in a similar role.
  • Experience in large venue, arena, stadium or similar facility.
  • Knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Current rigging/ dogging license.
  • Current working knowledge of the hospitality industry.
  • Ability to work with minimal external assistance.
  • Demonstrate an expert understanding of rigging technology and equipment.
  • Identify and select the most appropriate technology and equipment for assigned tasks.

With a proven ability to use initiative and work under pressure to meet deadlines, you will have a can-do attitude without compromise of safety.
