Latin super star Ricky Martin and his One World show has been touring Australia with production, lighting and video design by Richard Neville and Alex Grierson of Mandylights.
Essential to the rig are thirty-two Martin MAC Viper AirFX which more than hold their own against the large amount of other lights and video in the rig.
“The Martin MAC Viper AirFX are really in a class of their own,” said Richard. “We would normally specify other beam optimized fixtures but we were truly amazed by the output and the clarity of the AirFX. Their quality of light is amazing.”
The back of the stage features an impressive wall of ninety Martin MAC101’s.
“I think the MAC101 is a really underrated fixture,” commented Richard. “I’ve obviously used them in corporate and television environments but they can really hold their own on an arena show. They are really narrow, fairly bright for what they are plus they are incredibly fast. When we first put them into the visualizer we thought there was no way we would get such a range of fast effects but we did. We’re pretty stoked by that.”
The MAC101’s look their absolute best during ‘Cup of Life” where they tilt and wave, forming ripples across the entire back wall. They are run at thirty revolutions per minute creating a dancing wall of light and the effect is spectacular.
“However during the rest of the show, we use them to accentuate and draw people’s attention from one side of the stage to the other,” added Richard. “Ricky is very keen of crowd participation so they often snapping to the left or right of the house to light the room. We just generally have a lot of fun with them.”
Richard also has 24 Martin MAC Viper Profiles in his rig describing them as the ideal replacement for the MAC700 and the perfect fixture in its class.
