The new DM7 console range from Yamaha may present a slightly curious naming convention for some, sounding akin to that of significant predecessors from the brand. I immediately recall the years I spent sitting behind a DM2000, and of course there was also its smaller brother, the DM1000. In the marketing text for the DM7, Yamaha itself recalls the DMP7, which was its first digital mixer. More recently, the DM3 was released a few months prior to the DM7, providing a highly compact solution.
It’s not often we see Yamaha releasing a new range of digital consoles, and the DM7 is clearly aiming high. Sitting just behind its modular flagship Rivage system, the DM7 is more of a self-contained solution for a wide range of applications. In fact, I was curious to see how Yamaha had implemented everything that’s on offer here without detracting from the brand’s well-known and easily recognisable format.
