If you’ve been in live event production for a while, then you probably know how far power distribution units (PDUs) have advanced over the years. I remember seeing a dimmer tech poke the probes of his meter through the insulation of the feeder cable to get a voltage reading because the PDU had no test ports for reading voltage or no builtin metering . . .
Today, many PDUs have built-in meters and they also have a lot of other features
that make them efficient, convenient, and most importantly, safe to use. And the gear
continues to evolve, adding more features and clever implementations as it goes.
LSC’s new Unitour is an evolved portable power distribution unit that is designed
for audio, video and lighting production in touring, motion picture, TV, or any place portable power management is required. It’s made to be used with conventional (tungsten) lighting, LED fixtures, moving lights, as well as for video panels and live
sound reinforcement systems.
