DiGiCo’s new Quantum series marks its next generation of digital consoles, which benefit from an incredibly strong reputation. DiGiCo’s success story effectively began with the D5 Live before the SD-Range came along. After the D5 Live paved the way for the brand, the SD-Range have become some of the most widely-used consoles on the market today. Then, in 2018 we saw the first glimpse of the next chapter with the Quantum7.
Earlier this year at NAMM 2020, DiGiCo released a significant addition to this chapter. Firstly, similarly to the flagship Quantum7, the SD5 now has an available hardware update to bring us Quantum5. Complementing the family, however, is its first ground-up Quantum release; the Quantum3. This launch model arrived in the form of the Quantum 338, where the 38 relates to the number of faders on the surface. Presumably, and we can only hazard a guess, other frame sizes may appear in the future.
Therefore, the Quantum 338 is a significant release which not only delivers the new generation of console to a wider market but also signals a revised design and physical update for future consoles from DiGiCo. Before the UK went into lockdown, I visited DiGiCo’s headquarters in Chessington where I was given the full tour by brand ambassador Dan Page.
