Having taken a close look at the Quantum 338 console in the June 2020 issue of LSi, I was certainly intrigued by the surprise unveiling of the Quantum 225. DiGiCo released it as part of its New Year, New Hope competition, which took place during the UK’s lockdown at the start of 2021; the Quantum 225 was the unspecified top prize.
Whilst this might have been unusual timing for a top-tier digital console
release, the competition did drum up 10,000 entrants, bringing some positivity at a devastating time for many. In turn, it demonstrated a clear message that DiGiCo would still be here when the touring market returned. The console was announced alongside two new stage boxes; the Dante-enabled DQ-Rack and MADI-equipped MQ-Rack. Offering a Dante solution at this time was also helpful for DiGiCo to pursue installation opportunities, which were prevalent during this period.
Whilst I had been able to look into the new features that Quantum offers with the 338, due to the pandemic, there had been little opportunity to
test them out in the real world. Therefore, with the help of Tom Williams from DiGiCo, we put the 225 to the test on a live streaming event I was
involved with. This proved a great opportunity to use these new features in a high-pressured scenario and get hands-on with the new Quantum 225.
