If you’ve read any of my articles before, you’ll know that I’m a big fan of LED additive colour mixing and that I believe it will, given time, win out over the
current white LED-plus-dichroics subtractive systems. With that in mind, I was very pleased to see that Claypaky had dipped a toe into the additive
water with its new product, the Sinfonya Profile 600.
This is a brand-new product, and I was fortunate to get a late prototype to test. The unit I tested still had a few wrinkles to resolve, but Claypaky assures me they will be fixed before the units ship. The Sinfonya is marketed as being ‘exclusively for theatre,’ so it’s reasonable to review it with that in mind. I read ‘exclusively for theatre’ as meaning that a unit is quiet, accurate and versatile and doesn’t concentrate on effects or pure brightness.
Everything in this review is based on my tests on that single unit supplied to me from Claypaky in North America. All tests were run on a nominal 115V 60Hz supply (tests run at 119V); however, the Sinfonya is rated to run on voltages from 100-240V 50/60Hz.
As usual, my tests step through the unit, from light source to output lens, measuring as many parameters as possible.
