It is with great sadness that we report the sudden death of Phillip Storey.
In 1968, Bruce Jackson and Phillip formed J & S Research Electronics. Still in their late teens, the two friends and business partners designed and built PA systems, guitar amplifiers and lighting effects equipment. All of it was badged JANDS which became their business name.
In 1970, Phillip and Bruce sold out of Jands, although Phillip continued working with the organisation until 1972 at which point he left to take up a position in the UK. Phillip returned in 1974 and stayed with Jands until 1982, during which time he led product development, designing audio consoles, amplifiers, and control electronics. These products were the mainstay for Jands early concert touring systems and were sold into theatres, cinemas and countless other venues across Australia. Many are still in use today.
After his time with Jands Phillip worked in the Australian television industry, first at Network Ten and then, until he retired, at the Nine Network.
Phillip will be missed by his many friends around the world, and all of those at Jands who worked alongside him during his time with the company.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to Phillip’s family, his colleagues and all who knew him, and pay tribute to his immense contribution to Australia’s audio and television industries.
