Summary
The Regional Tour is presented by The Australian Ballet, in collaboration with The Australian Ballet School. The tour consists of dancers from The Australian Ballet (TAB), as well as the students from the graduating level of The Australian Ballet School, alongside TAB staff and crew. Every year the Regional Tour visit’s different regional locations around Australia, providing ballet lovers outside the capital cities an opportunity to enjoy the magic of dance in their hometowns.
The Regional Tour Stage Manager is responsible for calling performances and running the stage, for 5 weeks across Tasmania, Victoria, New South Wales and Northern Territory. It’s the Stage Manager’s responsibility to ensure the tour is delivered according to plan, trouble shoot issues that arise and perform the necessary daily tasks related to the production, logistics and touring party. The role should not only represent the company to the best of its ability but create a harmonious environment that encourages positive health and well-being whilst on tour.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Travel with the company in the capacity of Stage Manager and undertake related duties
- Liaise with theatre management and appropriate staff in all performance venues to ensure the venue is aware, in advance, of all activities and related front and back of house requirements of the various departments of the company, during the company’s hire of the venue
- Participate in Production Risk Assessment process
- Prepare the prompt copy, dome plots, fly plot, mechanists plots, sound plots, AV plot for all shows
- Mark studio floors for rehearsals; advise choreographer of ground plans and hanging plot
- Allocate dressing rooms and backstage areas for dancers, Wardrobe, Technical offices, physio and massage staff
- Ensure all stage activities during performances take place including scenic, flying, lighting and domes action
- Call cues according to direction of designers and choreographer including light, fly and dome cues, stage moves, audio cues, performers, technical staff and public
- Maintain discipline of performers and technical staff during performance
- Be on stage to troubleshoot during performances
- Identify and collate hazards and risk and update risk assessment where appropriate
- Ensure preparation for next performance/activity is completed
- Prepare show report at the conclusion of each performance
Staff Management
- Liaise with key technical personnel to ensure smooth and coordinated running of performances
- Manage and supervise the work of the Assistant Stage Manager
Other Duties
- Act as Stage Manager for Audience Engagement programs
- Oversee Q & A sessions for Audience Engagement Programs
- Cover Placing Calls and manage breaks of Stage Management staff as necessary
- Undertake any other duties as reasonably requested by the Technical Director
- Direct and manage workload and tasks of Production Interns as required
Knowledge, skills and abilities
- Tertiary qualification in theatre production (Stage Management)
- Extensive experience in stage management
- Experience in on the road regional and metropolitan touring
- Experience in theatre management, procedures and practices
- Experience in Dance (ballet)
- Ability to read and call off musical scores
- Technical/professional proficiency
