RCF Unveils New XPS SERIES Power Amplifier & DSP Platform

RCF has announced the XPS SERIES — a new class D power amplification and signal processing platform that’s comprised of two 4-channel models housed in a 2RU package designed for both touring and installation applications — and it will be showcased at the upcoming InfoComm 2023 show in Orlando at the Orange County Convention Center at booth 4971 and in demo room W224H.

Both the XPS 16K and XPS KD provide identical capabilities, with the latter also offering Dante networking. XPS amplifiers are equipped with four channels, each with a stated 4,000 watts of continuous audio power, joined by routing options that include four analog and digital AES/EBU inputs/outputs. Further, they combine two 40-bit floating-point SHARC DSP chips at 96 kHz and two more 32-bit DSP chips that independently manage audio processing and signal routing.

Onboard DSP provides input/output delays, IIR/FIR equalization, crossover filters, and thermal/RMS/peak limiting, with RCF loudspeaker presets supplied as well. A 4.3-inch TFT colour touchscreen on the front panel facilitates control and also included is the new RDNet-OE, the latest evolution of the company’s RDNet networked management platform for compatible products.

Four Ethernet ports on the rear panel with an internal 1Gb/s switch facilitate daisy-chaining multiple amplifiers or integration into any existing Ethernet infrastructure. Several devices can be connected to other RDNet-compatible devices or to one or more computers running RDNet software without requiring an external RCF CONTROL Series device.

Amplifier blocks are self-protecting and designed on an “audio-at-all-times” principle, with all fault protection functions individually implemented for each channel and power supply. Closed-loop digital protections span from RMS signal protection to Bass Motion Control (BMS) that’s designed to limit transducer over excursions. A power supply output dynamic limiter is designed to allow for long-lasting bursts while peak overvoltage protection protects amplifiers in a responsive approach. Also implemented are RMS overcurrent protection for short circuit protection as well as gain modulation for thermal protection.
