RCF HDL50 Debuts at Peninsula Music Festival

The Peninsula Music Festival is a two-day music and food festival located within the natural amphitheatre and surrounds of the Briars on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria over the Easter Weekend.

Acts included Bjorn Again, The Chantoozies, Brian Mannix, Daryl Braithwaite, Kate Ceberano and The Black Sorrows.

This year, lighting, audiovisual and audio was by Moon Mother Productions who deployed their XXL Elvis 10m x 9m mobile trailer stage, brand new RCF HDL 50-A PA and Allen & Heath dLive consoles.

It is the only RCF HDL50 system in the country.

The HDL 50-A Active 3-Way Line Array Speaker System was set up six per side with 12 x SUB 9006-AS Active High Power Subwoofers. The housing of the SUB 9006-AS matches the RCF D-Line HDL50-A HDL30 -A and HDL10-A array systems, enabling to build stacked systems in a perfect combination.

“On the day the system was set up to the manufacturer’s spec as per prediction from the software,” commented Brad Parker, FOH engineer for Daryl Braithwaite. “We had sub-array for uniform coverage and crossed over using standard RCF pre-sets.”

Prior to the event, Brad went to Moon Mother’s factory (Moon Base) to build a Showfile with the help of Ben Milne.

“We had two Allen & Heath S5000 dLives out front and they sounded fantastic! I was very impressed with the ease of use. Running at 96k works extremely well.”

Blake Newton ran monitors on a dLive C2500 with eight Martin 12/horn active monitors and a stereo in ear mix on drums.

Microphones included Sennheiser 901, 902, and 904s, Shure Beta 57s on Vox, and Shure SM57s on guitars and bass cab.

“The gig went really well,” added Brad. “The PA system sounded fantastic and the event crew were amazing and looked after us well. The Moon Mother crew were very professional, knowledgeable, and easy to work alongside.”

Lighting was supplied by Smoke Screen & Illumination (LX Productions), Darren Holborow heads up the LX team and lights were specced to suit two lighting designs for Bjorn Again (headlining Saturday night) and Daryl Braithwaite (headlining Sunday night).

The lights were a mix of Robe Robins and Robe Colorspot Beams, Molefay Duets, Sunstrips and an Avolites Pearl Expert for control.

Both lighting techs for Bjorn Again and Daryl bought in their own consoles for the show.
