A sculpture commissioned by the Signorelli family has been unveiled in front of Doltone House Darling Island Wharf in Pyrmont paying tribute to Australian migrants like the late Biaggio Signorelli who arrived in Australia from Sicily and established the successful Doltone House Group.
Award-winning sculptor Terrance Plowright created the bespoke piece under the guidance and vision of the Signorelli family. Featuring nine larger than life individuals, the sculpture weighs 10 tonnes, occupies six metres and has taken over eighteen months to complete. Aptly entitled Life From A Suitcase, the monument depicts a larger than life Biaggio Signorelli, his wife, Filippa, and their seven grandchildren. Fittingly, the sculpture’s residence is to be on Wharf 12 in Pyrmont – where the late Mr Signorelli arrived in Australia alone and penniless from Sicily when he was seventeen.
Bringing the sculpture to life at night are seven discreet Pulsar LED ChromaMR16 fittings specially made for this installation. Pulsar Lighting is able to manufacture custom colours (or custom population) on all of their fittings. In this instance the client wanted a warm white MR16 fitting which was going to be reliable and DMX controlled.
Pulsar was chosen not only because it is one of very few manufacturers who can do this but because they offer a three year warranty and this fits the bill nicely as the plan is for the statue to be around for a long time! And of course Pulsar is also famous for reliability.
The system is capable of running on a simple low voltage (0-10v) controller however six Pulsar ChromaInGround 50 LED fixtures have also been added to the exterior of Doltone House Darling Island Wharf and they are DMX controlled using a ChromaZone 12 and also enables individual control of each MR16.
The ChromaInGround 50 is a new product from Pulsar that is compact, powerful and features the latest in TriColour LED Technology. Basically a ChromaFlood 50 in an inground sleeve, the ChromaInGround 50 is rated to IP68 and is fabricated from 316 marine grade brushed stainless steel or anodised aluminium with a 10mm (0.4″) toughened glass allowing it to be walked or driven over.
