The story of Belconnen Arts Centre stretches back more than 20 years, to when a visionary community sought and secured land for a cultural centre on the spectacular banks of Lake Ginninderra in the ACT. For over ten years, we have offered a diverse and engaged program of exhibitions, events, classes and workshops, including our cherished IGNITE program.
In 2020, the Centre doubled in size, with a new 400-seat black box theatre, galleries, resident company offices and rehearsal room.
The Window Gallery, a small intimate exhibition space, beautifully positioned on the street frontage, was part of this expansion. It celebrates 24-hour presentation and continuously attracts walkers and, as such, requires excellent exhibition lighting.
āItās a tricky space to deal with as you have light in the day coming through and then night time too,ā commented Linda Buck, Technical Manager at Belco Arts. āI decided to look at different options for profile type lights in the gallery space that also had Casambi control.ā
Linda has been a loyal Show Technology customer for over twenty years and so she immediately turned to Gareth Mealing for guidance. Gareth popped down to the Centre to demonstrate the Prolights EclDisplay 25W white LED gallery lights to Linda.
EclDisplay is a range of revolutionary and flexible LED spotlights designed for galleries, commercials and any public venue where an advanced but classy fixture. The fixtures come with multiple control options, sources, colours, lenses and accessories, with over 7,000 possible fixture configurations.
The units are available in three control configurations: DAT, UN and CC. The DAT version comes with a built-in PSU, with manual knob-dimming, RDM, DMX and DALI control on board. The UN version includes all the above and adds phase-cut dimming for retrofitting in existing systems. In this case, Linda opted for the CC (Constant Current) version that works with external drivers, allowing installers to complete the light fittings with any track mounted, rack or boxed drivers, accepting any wired or wireless control (DALI, Casambi, 0-10, on-off).
“I was impressed by their light output, price point, and the fact that they had Casambi control,” Linda explained. The fixture is also incredibly versatile, Linda is currently using the the 20Ā°-40Ā° profile lens but has the flexibility to invest in different lens options like the 15Ā°-30Ā° or 25Ā°-50Ā° zoom wash lens in the future, allowing to easily switch lenses while using the same core base unit.
āWe currently need to upgrade our old gallery system. We’re trying to transfer to Casambi eventually, with the Prolights fixtures integrating into our existing track it means it’s one less thing to worry about when upgrading but that’s a long-term goal because we don’t have the funding to replace everything.ā
The EclDisplay is engineered with a 25W, high CRI LED engine and out of the five different source options available, the fixed white source in 3,000K was best suited for the application.
