This position supports the Production team to plan and deliver our orchestral concerts and other activity to the highest artistic, technical, and safety standards; whilst also coordinating events and maintenance around our TSO Studio and office space. This role would suit a production generalist, who enjoys working across a broad variety of events of differing scopes and can develop and maintain positive working relationships with TSO musicians and staff alike to form trust, understand their needs, and deliver top-quality production and event support.
Duties and Responsibilities
Orchestra Support
- Set up orchestral staging, instruments and other required items for rehearsals, performances, recordings, and other associated activities
- As directed by Production Manager, create stage plans for orchestral productions using CAD software
- Source external instrument hires as required by orchestra
- Assemble, arrange and supervise transportation of, and assist in loading and unloading, orchestral equipment as described above for activities away from the normal workplace
- Assist in setting acoustic banners in the FCH under direction of Director Artistic Identity
- Deputise for Orchestra Coordinator during times of absence
Events in TSO venues
- Oversee the planning, setup and running of standalone events in the TSO Studio, which may include performances, outside hires and TSO corporate events and functions; including being present at the event
- Develop and work within budgets and assist with the compilation of information for TSO Studio-based events
- Assist in all TSO auditions, including setting the room, setup of technical requirements and assisting Orchestra Management in the smooth running of the event
- Identify and rectify/elevate any WHS risks in venues, with particular focus on TSO Studio and all TSO office areas and walkways
Maintenance
- Maintain TSO storerooms to ensure cleanliness, orderliness, and safety
- Carry out minor repairs, maintenance and cleaning of orchestral equipment and workplace items, including within the TSO administration office space
- Assist with the testing and tagging of electrical equipment and record-keeping as required, including within the TSO administration office space
- Attend to building and equipment security as required, advising Production Manager of missing or damaged items
- Develop and maintain orchestral storeroom inventory as directed by Production Manager
Sound Monitoring
- Oversee all aspects of noise monitoring equipment, including setup and analysis of audio levels and provide reports on noise levels as required to Director People & Culture and Director Operations
Casual crew training
- Oversee training of casual production crew, including identifying any need for ongoing training
Equipment Coordination – digital scores
- As TSO transitions to digital scores, maintain iPad touring road case and ensure that iPads are charged and updated as required, in conjunction with TSO Library
TSO office maintenance and technical support
- Undertake / assist with minor office maintenance tasks (office lighting, furniture removal etc) when required
- Provide audio visual support within the TSO office space, meeting rooms, and TSO function areas including maintaining screens, hard drives, and ancillary equipment; troubleshooting equipment as needed; and providing informal training to staff as needed
Selection Criteria
- Minimum 2 years’ experience working with a professional orchestra and /or at other professional performance venues
- High level interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of personalities in a creative and often high-pressure environment
- Strong computer literacy with a knowledge of MS Word, Excel and Outlook. Some experience in Computer Aided Design (CAD) software essential
- Experience of project coordination of corporate and/or internal staff events, including set up, event management, troubleshooting technical issues, and meeting customer expectations
- Good maintenance / ‘handyman’ skills and experience in carrying out minor equipment repairs from time to time
- Ability to provide audio visual setup support for meetings within a standard office environment, including willingness to train administrative staff
- Capacity to work under pressure with good humour, make informed decisions, respond to agreed workplace changes and the ability to work flexibly and proactively in a team environment.

- Ability to safely undertake the physical / manual tasks required of a Production Manager, including passing a pre-employment health check if requested
- Capacity and willingness to work outside of normal business hours on a regular basis to meet the requirements of the role and TSOs artistic activity
- Holds, or has ability to secure (at TSOs cost once employment commences), the following certifications:
- Current First Aid certificate
- Fire Warden training
- Working at Heights certification
- Testing and tagging certification
- Current Working with Vulnerable People registration
- Current unrestricted driver’s license
- Ability to read, understand, and interpret orchestrations and stage plans would be an advantage
