Production Technician – Live Performance

Position: Permanent full-time or part-time. Note: This is a full time role however are happy to consider applications for permanent part-time instead. Please indicate in your preference in your application. 

Reports to: Technical Manager

Review Date:12 weeks probation and then annually 

Award: Live Performance Award 2020

Classification: LPA 2020, Level 3- 5 dependent on experience

Pay: $25-$30/hr dependent on experience; plus super and leave loading.

Team Objectives: The Technical Services Team work together to meet the operational requirements of BREC for all events and performances. All team members are multi-skilled, servicing all aspects of production within the Centre: lighting, sound, audio visual and staging. The team also take care of technical and building maintenance and other tasks required to support the success of the organization. The Technical Team builds and maintains strong relationships with external commercial, local community presenters, and artists: providing excellent and responsive customer service: building local capacity; and ensuring efficient and cost effective delivery of year round performance and event activity in BREC’s venues.

Position Objectives: Production Technicians assist the Senior Production Technician and Technical Manager with the efficient technical operation and maintenance of BREC and its facilities, providing a high level of service to all clients across both performance and events areas of the business. The role assists in all areas of technical service provision and performs other duties as required. The Production Technician must be a flexible thinker, calm under pressure and a team player, and works closely with FOH, BREC Volunteers & staff from other BREC teams. 

Key Position Responsibilities:

  • Act at all times in a safe and professional manner and show respect for all clients, volunteers, staff and other stakeholders.
  • Provide high levels of customer service with a proactive and positive approach towards any challenges encountered.
  • Assist in all areas of technical service provision as required, including set up, servicing and resetting for/after BREC Events.
  • Provide efficient technical services to all BREC’s clients.
  • Operate and maintain BREC’s equipment and facilities as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of time worked and chargeable hours. 
  • Follow all instructions as directed. 
  • Follow all policies, procedures and Work Health and Safety requirements.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information resulting from involvement with other staff and users of BREC.
  • Other duties as required.

Essential Selection Criteria:       

  • A reliable, efficient, honest and hard-working professional, dedicated to the technical theatre craft.
  • Demonstrated skills in professional live audio or theatrical lighting as a technician and operator. 
  • Experience in planning and building audio or lighting systems, following production schedules and fault finding.
  • Demonstrated effective organisational skills and the ability to meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills together with computer skills and knowledge in Microsoft 365, PowerPoint and Media players. Ability to comply with administrative duties of the role.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in liaising and negotiation with staff and clients and able to take direction from senior staff and management. 
  • Ability to work well in various situations such as individually, within a team and to lead a team as required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, understanding and compliance with Organisational Policies and Procedures, Health and Safety requirements and Equal Opportunity guidelines.

Desirable Selection Criteria:          

  • Experience in lighting 
  • Experience in areas other than your primary skill, such as sound, lighting, audio visual, cinema operation, conferencing or staging is highly desirable.
  • C class drivers licence.
  • Relevant qualifications such as Restricted Electrical Certificate, Test and Tag licence, White Card and Riggers Certificate or qualifications in the performing arts are highly desirable.

Hours of Work:  Monday to Sunday: flexible hours on a variable 4 week cyclical roster.152 hours per cycle. Rosters will include frequent evening and weekend work.

Period of Notice: Two weeks’ notice of resignation is required.

Other Benefits: 4 weeks annual leave, 2 wellness days and 10 days personal leave will apply. 

Other Requirements: On appointment, successful applicants must supply a current National Police Certificate, Working with Children Check, & White Card. These must be maintained throughout employment at BREC. Applicants must hold full work rights in Australia.
