Production Technician

Contract/Temp
$42 per hour

Join our dynamic team at Carriageworks as a Production Technician and immerse yourself in a world of diverse arts events at one of Sydney’s most vibrant venues. You’ll work at the forefront of our Artistic, Commercial, and Event Programs, providing top-tier technical support in lighting, audio, staging, or vision. This is a seasonal, fixed term contract – Rostered hours between 06:00 – 00:00 Monday to Sunday.

AVAILABLE CONTRACTS

1 x 13 week contract from 16/9/24 – 14/12/24

2 x 5 week contracts from 11/11/24 – 24/12/24

1 x 5 week contract from 04/11/24 – 21/12/24

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Apply technical skills in the staging of assigned productions, exhibitions, and events.
  • Provide high level customer service and practical assistance to ensure a positive experience for clients, artists and visiting companies.
  • Provide clients, artists and visiting companies with appropriate information and technical support for effective use of Carriageworks.
  • Ensure productions adhere to all WHS requirements.
  • Monitor the usage of equipment, maintain appropriate records, and ensure proper and safe use of all equipment.
  • Assisting in safety management and conducting safety inductions when required.
  • Conduct opening and closing venue procedures and daily reporting when required.
  • Assist with the maintenance and turnaround of theatre venues between productions.
  • Ensure the tidiness and good order of back-of-house spaces.
  • Other responsibilities as determined within the scope of this position.

Carriageworks is a thriving cultural centre located on Gadigal land in Redfern, Sydney. Built within the spectacular Eveleigh Railway Workshops, it hosts vibrant arts events and a thriving creative industries program. As well as popular events such as the weekly Farmers Market, Sydney Writers’ Festival, Australian Fashion Week, and Sydney Contemporary Art Fair, Carriageworks presents its own compelling program of music, theatre, dance, and visual arts. With recent renewal at both executive and board levels, Carriageworks is poised for a transformative phase in its history, promising significant growth, and impact in the years ahead.

PREFERRED CRITERIA

  • Experience in the live performance industry and a sound understanding of key elements of live production.
  • Practical technical experience in one or more production areas, including lighting, audio, vision, staging and/or rigging.
  • Demonstrated experience working within a technical team.
  • Commitment to high level, solution-focused customer service.
  • Flexible approach to working hours, including the capacity to work evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and having demonstrable interpersonal and verbal communication skills including advocacy, negotiation, and conflict resolution.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Workplace Health & Safety (WH&S).


DESIRABLE CRITERIA

  • EWP, forklift, and/or rigging licenses.
  • Test and tag certification.
  • First aid certification.
  • Drivers license.
