Production & Technical Manager

Established by a working group of independent dance practitioners in 1992, Dancehouse is the Centre for independent dance in Australia. Through its programs of residencies, performance, training and research, Dancehouse is a space for developing challenging, invigorating, and socially engaged moving art. Dancehouse is also a hub of knowledge and resources, a presenter of outstanding programs targeting multiple communities and a fierce advocate for the vibrancy and literacy of the Australian independent dance sector.

Dancehouse is the only presenter in Australia dedicated solely to contemporary dance and from its base in Melbourne, its reputation and influence has crossed state boundaries to shape the art form nationally and internationally.

Dancehouse is situated in Carlton North in a heritage building belonging to the City of Yarra.

Reporting to the Artistic Director/CEO, the PRODUCTION & TECHNICAL MANAGER will be responsible for managing and overseeing the efficient, accurate and timely delivery of all productions and events produced by and presented at Dancehouse. 

This includes realisation of dance and theatre productions, festivals, one-off events, workshops, developments and hirer events.  In this role you will work in a small, highly motivated team to assist in ensuring the ongoing success and growth of Dancehouse programs.

You will play a key role in:

  • Managing and overseeing all public programs and events, including workshops, developments and hirer events
  • Creating and manage production budgets
  • Coordinating technical set-up for all productions and events
  • Designing, installing and operating technical equipment for events as required
  • Overseeing OH&S and WHS and compliance
  • Recruiting, supervising, coordinating and rostering technical crew for as required

To be successful, you will have a Tertiary Qualification in Events or Arts Management and/or in Theatre Production and relevant experience in the Arts Industry. You will be able to put into practice your experience in managing teams and dealing with subcontractors as well as your knowledge of employer obligations required under the Occupational Health & Safety Act.

You will be a great communicator with a professional attitude and informed vocabulary.  You will be able to work autonomously and in a high performing small team and you will be well versed in the nuances of working in a theatre environment to help the artists realise their creative vision in a safe, productive and professional manor.
