Production Supervisor

Darebin Arts Centre is seeking an experienced, motivated and solutions-focused Production Supervisor who will be responsible for overseeing and facilitating all technical requirements of event presentations. Additionally, the role is responsible for maintaining and updating venue technical equipment, software and associated paperwork, as well as supervising all technical staff requirements including the areas of rostering and training.

About the Role

The Production Supervisor position is a core role of the Operations and Technical Team that is responsible for all operational, technical and front of house support for the Arts Precincts activities, including performances and events. The Technical team is responsible for ensuring all technical aspects of the venue and equipment are maintained and improved in line with procurement policies and industry standards, and to facilitate all technical and production-related operational duties for events at the highest professional standard.

Duties

• Responsible for the pre-production coordination of all technical services at a high-volume event-days performing arts venue

• Oversee and maintain continuous improvement documentation of technical and OHS processes, with assistance from the Venue Technician, where required

• Responsible for coordinating scheduled periodic and ad-hoc equipment maintenance and upgrades, and associated rostering and training of staff

• Develop proficiency in venue management system (Ungerboeck) as the key source for recording all production-related technical information (for which training will be provided)

• Technical competence in all technical discipline areas of live performance industry

• Excellent time-management skills, ability to multitask, and meet set deadlines

• Excellent client and artist liaison communication and administration skills, with a broad understanding of the industry sector

• Excellent innovative and creative problem-solving skills

Key Selection Criteria

Demonstrated experience in the production and technical operation of a live theatre or performing arts centre including operational skills in theatre Lighting, Sound & Staging, Counterweight Flying systems including rigging and dogging methodologies as they apply to flying scenery and other items.Experience in a ‘hands on’ capacity in a performing arts environment.

Demonstrated ability to lead technical and production staff, and to work within a small and flexible team environment.Demonstrated effective time management skills, with regards to managing multiple events at different stages of pre-production simultaneously, alongside project work such as maintenance period planning and staff training days.

Well-developed interpersonal skills and customer focused communication, and ability  to communicate effectively with artists, producers, clients and patrons from a wide variety of backgrounds.

Demonstrated ability to work productively with a range of community and professional organisations.

Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, flexibility and commitment to safe working practices and procedures.Demonstrated ability to use a variety of Theatre Lighting, Sound Equipment and A/V software, as well as MS software.
