The Production Stage Manager, under the supervision of the Head of Production, oversees all stage management requirements for Queensland Ballet productions and ensures a consistently excellent and safe standard from studio to stage. This valuable member oversees and maintains the core documentation and communication systems and processes to ensure the Production Department operates effectively and efficiently.
# The position requires some inter, intra-state travel, international travel.
REPORTING
The Production Stage Manager reports to the Head of Production. This role supervises a team of casual employees and contractors.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Stage Management:
· Act as Stage Manager for Queensland Ballet productions staged in QPAC or other venues as required.
· Cost, organise and manage the Stage Management team for each Queensland Ballet season, tour and any other events in consultation with the Head of Production.
· Manage, cost and organise any rehearsal or show props or furniture required for new or remount productions including supplying substitute rehearsal elements as required.
· Maintain a complete inventory of all prop, furniture and other Production assets of Queensland Ballet.
· Manage the rehearsal requirements of each production, tour and other events including mark up, props, furniture, music, and video.
· Maintain a complete Stage Management archive of each Queensland Ballet production, tour or major event including, but not limited to, prompt copy, documentation, plots and photos.
· Travel and act as Stage Manager for Queensland Ballet touring productions regionally, nationally and internationally as required.
· Ensure contracted stage management staff perform to the highest possible standard by providing mentorship and support.
· Drive innovation and improvement in Stage Management processes and practices.
· With other Production Staff, facilitate effective and cooperative work relations within the department and between the department staff and the rest of the Company.
· Lead the development and implementation of Stage Management department Work, Health and Safety policy, procedures and practices.
· Advise the Head of Production and other Production Staff to ensure the appropriate risk management processes and Work Health and Safety procedures are created and applied to each production and Stage Management department activity.
Planning, Production Operation, Administration:
· Work collaboratively with peers and cross departmental stakeholders to maximise staff, resources, and opportunities to ensure the smooth planning and delivery of all Queensland Ballet productions and touring programs.
· Maintain production petty cash and associated documentation, including the reconciliation of all show related expenses.
· Apply knowledge of, interpret and adhere to relevant industrial awards and legislation, including the Live Performance Award, Performer’s Certified Agreement and relevant WHS legislation and policies.
· Manage the pre-production planning and preparation through to execution of each Queensland Ballet production to ensure the safe installation, operation and maintenance of relevant Production related assets of Queensland Ballet and maintain associated records.
· Manage the maintenance and upkeep of production digital content including archival performance recording -Vimeo.
SELECTION CRITERIA
1. Minimum of five years’ experience in a similar position in a performing arts organisation; demonstrated understanding of stage managmenet for ballet; demosntrated ability to call performances from score and recorded music.
2. Demonstrated knowledge of all technical aspects of professional theatre production, including planning, negotiating, and managing production processes, lighting requirements, set and costume builds and negotiation with creative teams.
3. Working knowledge of relevant industrial awards and legislation, including the Live Performance Award, Performer’s Certified Agreement and relevant WHS legislation and policies.
4. Proven experience working as part of and managing a small team in a fast moving, creative environment, whilst instilling a high-performance and supportive culture.
5. A proactive, collaborative mindset and demonstrated capacity to work independently, combined with an eye for detail and the ability to see the big picture.
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
The following will be used to assess the employee’s performance in the role at performance appraisals:
1. Demonstrated collaboration and teamwork in the delivery of production requirements across all Queensland Ballet sites.
2. Effective budget management, high level reporting quality and adherence to deadlines.
3. Comprehensive production documentation and record management, including professional delivery of production elements required across TDC and Production Arts Centre, extending to events and activations.

GENERAL INFORMATION
Recreation Leave 20 working days per year (pro-rata)
Personal/Carer’s Leave Ten working days per year (pro-rata)
Probationary Period Six months from commencement.
Hours of Work Nominally 38 hours per week Monday to Friday but the appointee may be required to be available to work other hours and on weekends as required.
Salary Salary will be negotiated with preferred candidate. Superannuation is paid into the superannuation fund of your choice, currently at the rate of 10.5%.
